What is Baka MPlayer?
Baka MPlayer is a desktop media player for watching TV shows and other video, or listening to audio, in a relatively uncluttered interface. It uses libmpv for playback and combines a smart playlist with gesture seeking, desktop dimming and multilingual controls. The Windows edition is offered as separate 64-bit and 32-bit ZIP packages; this entry links to the publisher's 64-bit package.
Version 2.0.4 adds a Hide All Controls mode and the ability to open external audio files. It also offers options not to save recently opened files or restore the previous playback position. These controls suit watching a series without keeping the full interface visible throughout playback.
The linked release dates from December 2015. Its availability is not evidence of current maintenance or compatibility with Windows 10 or 11. The project documents online video playback through the optional youtube-dl dependency, so that feature should not be treated as guaranteed support for today's video sites. This entry describes publisher documentation and a verified download link, not an installation or playback test.
What it offers
- Play video and audio through the libmpv playback engine.
- Use gesture seeking and a smart playlist to navigate media.
- Dim the desktop or hide all player controls for a less distracting viewing layout.
- Open external audio files alongside playback in version 2.0.4.
- Choose whether recently opened files and playback positions are remembered.
Good to know
- The selected release is from 2015; current maintenance and Windows 10 or 11 compatibility have not been established.
- Online video playback is documented with an optional youtube-dl dependency; compatibility with current streaming sites is unverified.
