What is Dexed?
Dexed is an FM synthesizer modeled on the Yamaha DX7, with a patch librarian for working with DX7/TX7 sounds. It suits musicians who want to play and edit those patches on a Mac, as well as owners of compatible hardware who need a software patch editor. Its single-panel layout exposes 144 DAW-automatable DX7 parameters and individual operator activity meters.
For patch browsing, use CART to open the cartridge manager and SHOW DIR to locate its Cartridges folder. The publisher documents loading .syx files from that folder and double-clicking a program to load it into the instrument. DX7/TX7 programs can be loaded and saved, including saving a single program into a separate SysEx file.
Cartridge support is not universal across the DX family: the publisher FAQ limits direct support to original DX7 Mark I cartridges, rather than DX7II or later cartridge formats. The selected download is the publisher’s macOS 1.0.1 DMG. Release configuration targets Intel and Apple silicon, but its macOS 10.9 deployment setting is not a verified end-user compatibility guarantee; no installation or audio tests were performed for this entry.
