What is Dragonframe?
Dragonframe is stop-motion capture software for animators working with a camera and physical scenes. Compare the live view with captured frames, use onion-skin overlays to judge movement, and loop playback before taking the next shot. Its frame-based timeline lets you adjust timing and reshoot sequences rather than treating each capture as an isolated photograph.
The cinematography tools bring camera settings, test shots and image review into the capture workflow. With supported cameras, you can adjust settings such as shutter speed, ISO and white balance from the computer. Composition guides and the Digital Densitometer help compare framing and exposure. Camera controls vary by model, so check the publisher’s camera-support information before choosing equipment.
For dialogue scenes, import multiple audio tracks, make basic timing edits and assign words or phonetics to characters. Track readings and waveforms can be displayed alongside the animation. Export options include image sequences and QuickTime, AVI or MP4 movies. DMX lighting and motion-control workflows are also available, but require compatible external hardware.
This entry links to the publisher’s Dragonframe 2026.07.4 EXE installer for 64-bit Windows 10 or 11. The 30-day trial is for evaluating the workflow: it permanently watermarks captured images, limits each take to 50 frames and does not support camera RAW formats. Use non-production material for evaluation; the publisher explicitly says trial watermarks cannot be removed.
