What is Drawpile?

Drawpile brings several artists into the same drawing canvas. Use it for a shared sketch session, painting together or collaborating on an animation; you can also draw offline on your own. Its brush editor, stroke stabilizer and pressure-sensitive tablet support sit alongside layers, layer groups and blend modes. Animation tools include a timeline and onion skins.

For a private session with friends, the publisher describes hosting on its community server, adding a password and sharing the invitation link. This avoids setting up your own server. Public sessions need attention to participant permissions rather than just an open invitation. If you need editing features outside Drawpile, the publisher documents saving a canvas as OpenRaster or PSD for work in another application.

The linked Windows package is the 64-bit MSI installer for version 2.3.1. The publisher also offers portable, ARM64 and 32-bit packages separately. Its Windows download notes warn that a missing VCRUNTIME DLL or Visual Studio Redistributable error requires the Microsoft runtime first. The gallery image is an older illustrative Drawpile interface from Softonic, not a capture of the current Windows release.

What it offers

  • Draw, paint, sketch and animate with other people on the same canvas, or work offline.
  • Customize brushes and use a stroke stabilizer with pressure-sensitive tablet input.
  • Organize artwork with layers, layer groups, blend modes, masking and alpha lock.
  • Create animations with a timeline and onion skins, including collaborative animation.
  • Host password-protected sessions on community servers and export canvases to OpenRaster or PSD.

Good to know

  • The Windows build may require the Microsoft Visual Studio Redistributable if startup reports a missing VCRUNTIME DLL.
  • This installer is for x64 Windows; ARM64 and 32-bit systems need the separate packages linked by the publisher.
  • Running an open public session requires managing participant permissions; the publisher recommends reading its session-operation guidance.
