What is Fraqtive?
Fraqtive generates Mandelbrot-family fractals for interactive exploration and image creation. You can zoom, move and rotate the view in real time while a Julia preview shows the related fractal. Color smoothing, post-processing and a 3D surface view offer different ways to display the result.
For output beyond the interactive view, Fraqtive can generate high-resolution images and image series for animations. Version 0.4.8 adds 2x2, 4x4 and 8x8 multi-sampling, which renders a larger image before scaling it to the requested size. There is a resolution trade-off: the publisher documents a maximum of 30720 x 17280 pixels without multi-sampling in the 64-bit version, falling to 3840 x 2160 at 8x8 multi-sampling.
This entry links to the publisher-listed Windows 64-bit EXE installer for version 0.4.8, announced on January 29, 2015. The publisher lists Windows 7 or newer and offers a separate 32-bit installer. Those are publisher compatibility statements, not results of an installation or a Windows 11 test.
What it offers
- Explore Mandelbrot-family fractals with real-time zooming, movement and rotation.
- View a dynamically generated Julia fractal preview alongside the main image.
- Generate high-resolution still images and image series for animations.
- Adjust color smoothing and image post-processing, or view the fractal surface in 3D.
- Use 2x2, 4x4 or 8x8 multi-sampling in version 0.4.8 to improve rendered image quality.
Good to know
- Higher multi-sampling reduces maximum output resolution: the 64-bit version supports 30720 x 17280 pixels without multi-sampling, but 3840 x 2160 at 8x8 multi-sampling.
