What is fre:ac?
fre:ac converts music files between formats such as MP3, M4A/AAC, FLAC, Opus, Ogg Vorbis and WAV. It suits preparing an existing music library for another player or turning audio CDs into files. The integrated CD ripper can look up artist and track information through CDDB/GNUdb, while the tag editor lets you manage track metadata. Library conversion can retain the source folder and filename structure.
The linked version 1.1.7 download is a DMG for Intel and Apple Silicon Macs on macOS 11.0 or later. It is not the package for older macOS systems; the publisher lists a separate legacy DMG for Intel and PowerPC Macs. The screenshot is the publisher's historical macOS dark-mode preview from 2019, showing an alpha build rather than version 1.1.7.
