What is Frescobaldi?
Frescobaldi is a text-based sheet music editor for people who work with LilyPond notation. Write a .ly document in the editor, run LilyPond to engrave it and use the music view to inspect the resulting score. Two-way Point & Click links the notation source with the displayed music, helping you find the passage you want to change.
Syntax highlighting, completion and formatting assist with the source text. The Score Wizard sets up a new score, while snippets let you reuse notation passages and templates. A built-in documentation browser keeps LilyPond references close to the editing workflow, and the MIDI player can play LilyPond-generated MIDI files for listening checks.
This is a LilyPond source-editing workflow: you need to work with LilyPond syntax and have LilyPond installed for engraving. Frescobaldi 4 includes an automatic LilyPond installation feature. The linked Windows package is the publisher’s Frescobaldi 4.0.7 MSI installer. The screenshot is a historical publisher illustration of the editor and PDF preview on a Linux-style desktop; it does not depict Windows version 4.0.7.
