What is Hydrogen?
Hydrogen is a drum sequencer and drum synth for building rhythms through pattern-based programming. It suits creating a practice beat, developing drum parts for a song or preparing loops for performance. Its drumkits and controls for instruments, samples and individual notes let you shape the rhythm beyond placing hits on a grid.
MIDI support and an OSC API provide ways to control Hydrogen from external equipment or other software. Time-stretching and pitch shifting are also listed among the publisher's features. This entry links to the publisher's Windows 64-bit EXE installer for version 1.2.7, rather than the older version listed on Softonic.
The selected installer is not a 32-bit Windows package. Version 1.2.7 also ignores tempo changes from keyboard shortcuts, MIDI, OSC, Beat Counter and Tap Tempo when its timeline is active or tempo is synchronized to an external application. Use the controlling timeline or external tempo source in that situation.
What it offers
- Build drum rhythms using pattern-based sequencing and drum synthesis.
- Choose drumkits and adjust instrument, sample and individual note properties.
- Control the drum machine through MIDI or its OSC API.
- Use time-stretching and pitch shifting to shape samples.
Good to know
- The linked Windows installer is 64-bit, not a 32-bit package.
- With an active timeline or external tempo synchronization, version 1.2.7 discards tempo changes from keyboard shortcuts, MIDI, OSC, Beat Counter and Tap Tempo.
