What is MilkyTracker?
MilkyTracker is a music tracker for composing and editing MOD and XM module files. Its Fasttracker II-style interface combines note patterns, instruments and samples, with a sample editor for shaping waveforms and an instrument editor for adjusting envelopes. It is suited to working with tracker music and chiptune-style sounds rather than arranging everything on a conventional audio timeline.
You can open modules in tabs, exchange samples and instruments between them, and render songs or patterns to WAV. ProTracker 2/3 playback modes and resampler options, including emulated Amiga sound output, support work with older module music.
The linked file is version 1.04.00 for Apple silicon Macs. The publisher’s macOS links still point to this release while newer Windows and Linux builds are listed separately; features announced for version 1.05 should not be assumed to be included. An Intel Mac needs the separate x86_64 package. The publisher also documents macOS developer-verification and quarantine launch issues, so this entry does not promise trouble-free installation.
The screenshot is an archival publisher image of MilkyTracker on Mac OS X 10.4.11, not a capture of the linked Apple silicon build or evidence that this build supports that older system.
What it offers
- Create and edit MOD and XM module music in a Fasttracker II-style pattern interface.
- Shape samples with the waveform editor and adjust instruments with envelope tools.
- Use tabs to work with multiple modules and exchange samples or instruments between them.
- Render songs or patterns to WAV, or render directly to a sample.
- Use ProTracker 2/3 playback modes and resampler options for older module music.
Good to know
- The publisher’s macOS downloads point to 1.04.00, not the newer Windows/Linux release; do not assume version 1.05 features are included.
- This DMG targets Apple silicon (arm64); Intel Macs require the separate x86_64 build.
- The publisher documents macOS developer-verification/quarantine launch issues. A minimum macOS version for the selected DMG was not verified.
