What is Moonscraper Chart Editor?

Moonscraper Chart Editor is a song-chart editor for Guitar Hero-style rhythm games. Use its local view to work on notes and starpower for an instrument and difficulty, or switch to the global view for tempo, time signatures and song sections. Playback and controller or keyboard playtesting help authors review a chart while working.

The publisher manual describes saving .chart files, exporting .mid files and packaging a chart with audio for Clone Hero. This entry links to the official Windows 64-bit EXE installer for version 1.5.13; a separate 32-bit installer is available from the publisher.

The original editor is not receiving major updates while Moonscraper Chart Editor 2 is developed. The developer also documents problems with extremely long charts and inaccurate waveform rendering in the original editor. Do not treat features shown in Moonscraper 2 development previews as part of this download.

What it offers

  • Edit notes and starpower separately for each instrument and difficulty.
  • Set BPM changes, time signatures and sections in the global chart view.
  • Preview a chart or playtest with keyboard and controller input.
  • Save .chart files, export .mid files and package chart/audio files for Clone Hero.
  • Version 1.5.13 adds a Ghl Keys track and removes rebinding restrictions on various controls.

Good to know

  • No major updates are planned for the original editor while Moonscraper Chart Editor 2 is developed.
  • The developer reports problems with extremely long charts and inaccurate waveform rendering in Moonscraper 1.
  • The selected installer is Windows x64; the publisher offers a separate 32-bit build but does not state a minimum Windows version on its download page.
