What is Mp3splt?

Mp3splt cuts long audio files into smaller tracks without decoding the audio. It works with MP3, Ogg Vorbis and native FLAC, making it useful for dividing an album image, a recording or another long file into sections. Choose start and end times, use a local CUE sheet or Audacity labels, or let silence detection identify split points. Fixed-length and equal-time splitting are also supported.

The linked Windows download is the 32-bit i386 installer for Mp3splt 2.6.2, the command-line program. The project distributes its graphical frontend, mp3splt-gtk, separately. The screenshot illustrates that separate frontend on Windows in historical version 0.5.7; it does not show the interface included in this command-line download.

The publisher's listed release news dates to November 2014. The source pages establish Windows availability but do not confirm compatibility with current Windows 10 or 11 systems. This is a splitting utility for the supported audio formats, not a general-purpose format converter.

What it offers

  • Split MP3, Ogg Vorbis and native FLAC files without decoding.
  • Set split points manually or import local CUE, CDDB/XMCD or Audacity label files.
  • Split or trim using silence detection, or divide a file into fixed-length or equal-time tracks.
  • Process multiple files recursively and select an output directory.
  • Handle MP3 VBR, ID3v1/ID3v2 tags and Vorbis comments.

Good to know

  • This download is command-line software; the mp3splt-gtk graphical frontend shown in the historical screenshot is a separate package.
  • The listed release dates to 2014; Windows 10 and 11 compatibility has not been established by the cited publisher pages.
  • Splitting support covers MP3, Ogg Vorbis and native FLAC; it is not a general-purpose audio format converter.
