What is nomacs?
nomacs is an image viewer for browsing photo folders, checking image details and comparing different versions of a picture. Thumbnail previews and a file explorer help you navigate a collection, while metadata and histogram panels expose more information about the selected image. Multiple viewer instances can synchronize zoom and pan so you can examine the same area of two images.
For small corrections, nomacs offers cropping, resizing, rotation and adjustments to brightness, contrast, saturation, hue, gamma and exposure. Its format documentation distinguishes reading from writing: opening a format does not necessarily mean you can save in that format, and additional formats depend on build options or image-format plugins.
This entry links to the publisher's 64-bit Windows MSI installer. At the recorded HEAD check, that link resolved to release 3.22.4. The publisher screenshot illustrates nomacs 3.21.0 on Linux, not the Windows package or an installation performed by SoftGalaxy.
What it offers
- Browse folders with thumbnail previews and a file explorer panel.
- Inspect image metadata and a histogram alongside the picture.
- Synchronize zoom and pan across viewer instances to compare images.
- Crop, resize and rotate pictures; adjust brightness, contrast, saturation, hue, gamma and exposure.
Good to know
- Image-format support is not uniform: some formats are read-only, and additional formats depend on build options or matching image-format plugins.
- The linked installer is for 64-bit Windows; the publisher FAQ states that Windows XP and Vista are not supported by development since nomacs 3.0.
