What is OpenSong?

OpenSong helps worship leaders and musicians manage song lyrics and chords, print lead sheets and prepare projected presentations. Its song editor stores details such as author, copyright, CCLI number and presentation order. Chords can be transposed to another key, and printed sheets can show both regular and capo-adjusted chords.

For a service or rehearsal, group songs into sets and choose the order of verses and choruses. Presentations can combine songs, Bible passages and timed announcement slides, with adjustable fonts and backgrounds.

Song entry uses a specific text format: lyric lines start with a space, chord lines with a period, and section labels use square brackets. Existing plain text may need reformatting before it displays as intended.

The linked Windows installer is version 2.2.7 from the publisher-linked V2.2.7 folder, whose file listing is dated September 17, 2018. It is an older package, not a claim of the newest release. SourceForge also advertises 3.4.8 from a folder explicitly labelled Beta. Compatibility of this older installer with current Windows releases has not been established here.

What it offers

  • Transpose chords to another key and print regular and capo-adjusted chords together.
  • Store song metadata including author, copyright, CCLI number, tempo and presentation order.
  • Arrange songs, Bible passages and timed slides into presentation sets.
  • Customize presentation fonts, text outlines, shadows and background images.

Good to know

  • Song entry requires OpenSong formatting: spaces before lyric lines, periods before chord lines and bracketed section labels.
  • This download is the older 2.2.7 Windows installer; current-Windows compatibility is unverified, and the separately advertised 3.4.8 package is in a Beta folder.
