What is Premation?
Premation is a desktop motion graphics editor for building animated titles, compositing layers and shaping movement with editable keyframes. Its timeline, graph editor, masks, mattes and cameras follow an After Effects-style workflow. Text animation, vector artwork and rigging tools make it useful for motion design rather than just arranging finished video clips.
The publisher lists After Effects .aep and .aepx project import, SVG and Lottie import, and output formats including MP4, WebM, ProRes MOV, Lottie JSON and image sequences. These are publisher-documented capabilities, not a guarantee that every imported project or third-party effect will translate unchanged.
The editor is free under GNU AGPL v3.0; Premation Cloud is an optional paid service for expanded cloud storage, version history and the publisher's own plugins. The publisher describes the packaged app as using a free sign-in, while a local build from source needs no account. This link is the Windows x64 EXE installer. A working Direct3D 12 GPU driver is required: the rendering engine has no CPU software fallback.
What it offers
- Animate layers with timeline keyframes, easing controls and a graph editor.
- Combine text, shapes, masks, track mattes and GPU effects in layered compositions.
- Work with cameras, 2D and 3D layers, and bone or puppet rigging.
- Import After Effects projects, SVG artwork and Lottie animations, as documented by the publisher.
- Export video, Lottie JSON and image sequences; the packaged app includes ffmpeg for video encoding.
Good to know
- Requires Windows 10 or 11 x64, at least 8 GB RAM and a working Direct3D 12 GPU driver; there is no CPU software renderer.
- The free cloud allowance is five projects with seven days of history; additional cloud projects become read-only unless the plan is upgraded. Local projects remain unlimited.
- The publisher's installers use a free sign-in; the account-free local edition must be built from source.
