What is SoundWire Server?

SoundWire Server captures audio on a Windows PC and sends it to the separate SoundWire Android app. Use your phone as a remote speaker or connect headphones to it while music, web audio or a movie plays on the computer. The server can capture the default multimedia device, microphone or line input, so it is not tied to one music player.

The Windows interface shows the server address, connection status and audio level. Select an input, check that the level meter responds, then connect from the Android app. Recording to MP3 or WAV is also documented by the publisher. This download is the publisher's ZIP containing the Windows installer, not the Android client.

Both the server and receiving app must be running, and the network and firewall must allow the connection. Audio delay depends on the device, network and buffer settings: smaller buffers can reduce delay but cause choppy playback. The free Android client limits compression to a ten-minute trial; ongoing compression requires the paid client. These client restrictions should not be confused with the free Windows server.

What it offers

  • Mirror Windows audio to the SoundWire Android app over a network.
  • Select speaker output, microphone or line input as the audio source.
  • View the server address, connection status and live audio level in the desktop window.
  • Record captured audio to MP3 or WAV files.

Good to know

  • Requires a separate receiving app and a working network connection; the Windows server alone does not turn a phone into a speaker.
  • Lower buffer sizes can reduce audio delay but may introduce choppy playback; performance depends on the network and receiving device.
  • The free Android client offers only a ten-minute compression trial; continued compression requires the paid Android app.
