What is StaxRip?
StaxRip brings video and audio encoding tools into a Windows project interface. It controls console applications such as x265, FFmpeg and mkvmerge, while AviSynth+ and VapourSynth provide script-based video processing. It suits users who want to choose their encoding settings and processing workflow rather than use a one-click converter. The interface groups source and target details, filters, resizing, encoder options and audio tracks, with an Add Job control for the job list.
The publisher explicitly describes StaxRip as not a one-click encoder: users need to understand their goals and configure the project accordingly. Its Assistant offers step-by-step guidance, but does not remove that learning requirement. Some included tools and filters also need Microsoft Visual C++ runtimes.
The linked download is the full v2.52.6 Windows x64 portable 7z archive, not an installer or source-code package. Extract it into a new location, not over an existing StaxRip folder, as instructed in the release notes. The publisher screenshot illustrates the v2.50 interface; it is not a capture of v2.52.6.
What it offers
- Control video and audio encoding tools including x265, FFmpeg and mkvmerge through a Windows GUI.
- Use AviSynth+ and VapourSynth for script-based video processing.
- Configure filters, resizing, encoder options and audio tracks within a project.
- Use the Assistant for step-by-step guidance and add encoding projects to the job list.
Good to know
- Not a one-click encoder: the publisher expects users to understand and configure the processing workflow.
- Some included tools and filters require Microsoft Visual C++ runtimes; exact dependencies vary by tool.
- The full release archive must be extracted into a new location, not an existing StaxRip folder; changed encoder parameters can affect queued jobs.
