What is TuxGuitar?
TuxGuitar is a guitar tablature editor and player for working with multitrack music on Android. It opens Guitar Pro, Power Tab Editor, TablEdit and MIDI files, so you can use existing tablature rather than enter every part from scratch. The publisher's Android screenshot shows standard notation above six-line tablature, a playback control and an on-screen editing keypad.
This download is the Android APK from the project's 2.1.1 release, linked by its official website. It is a direct package rather than a store listing; installation involves Android sideloading. The publisher warns that its packages are not officially signed. The APK filename includes “release-signed”, but that filename is not an independent verification of its signing identity.
Files saved in TuxGuitar's newer native format, introduced in version 2.0.0, cannot be read by older TuxGuitar versions. Export to the older format when sharing tablature with someone using an older release.
What it offers
- Edit and play multitrack guitar tablature.
- Open Guitar Pro, Power Tab Editor, TablEdit and MIDI files.
- View standard notation alongside tablature; the publisher's Android screenshot also shows an on-screen editing keypad.
Good to know
- The direct Android APK requires sideloading. The publisher warns that its packages are not officially signed; the selected APK's signing identity has not been independently checked.
- TuxGuitar 2.0.0 and later use a native file format that older versions cannot read; export to the old format for backward compatibility.
