What is VirtualDJ?

VirtualDJ turns a Windows computer into a DJ mixing workspace. Its on-screen decks combine track waveforms, jog wheels, an equalizer, filters and transport controls, so you can practice transitions or prepare a set without connecting a controller. Loops, hot cues and performance pads provide ways to trigger and reshape parts of a track during a mix.

Real-time stem separation lets you adjust components such as vocals, instruments and drums independently. The library browser supports searching, tags, lists and smart folders for organizing tracks. Beyond audio mixing, VirtualDJ supports video and karaoke playback, with recording tools for audio and video mixes.

The free license is for non-professional use without professional equipment such as a DJ controller or mixer. Controller use needs an appropriate license; earning money with VirtualDJ requires a PRO license. The publisher also lists additional graphics hardware requirements for stems 2.0, so basic Windows compatibility alone does not establish suitability for that workload. This entry links to the publisher's 64-bit Windows MSI for VirtualDJ 2026 build 9729, not its separate legacy 32-bit build.

What it offers

  • Mix through on-screen decks with waveforms, jog wheels, EQ, filters and effects, without requiring connected DJ hardware.
  • Use loops, hot cues and performance pads to control sections of a track during a mix.
  • Separate vocals, instruments and percussion in real time for stem-based transitions and remixes.
  • Organize tracks with library search, tag editing, lists and smart folders.
  • Mix video, play karaoke and record audio or video sets.

Good to know

  • Free use excludes professional use and professional DJ equipment. Controller use requires an appropriate license, and earning money with VirtualDJ requires PRO.
  • Stems 2.0 has additional GPU requirements; the publisher lists NVIDIA GTX 1050 or above with 4 GB VRAM, or AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT or better.
