What is VLC media player?
VLC media player brings local audio, video and supported network streams into one desktop application. It suits opening media files and discs without switching players for each task. VideoLAN lists support for most multimedia files, DVDs, audio CDs and VCDs, as well as several streaming protocols.
VLC is the player, not a source of films, music or streaming subscriptions. Support for a format or protocol does not mean every individual file or protected service will play. The publisher's download route uses external mirrors, so the final download host can change while the selected version and package remain the same.
What it offers
- Play supported local video and audio files.
- Open supported network-streaming protocols.
- Play supported DVDs, audio CDs and VCDs.
Good to know
- Does not include media subscriptions or guarantee playback of protected services.
- The publisher download route selects an external mirror; its destination can change.
