What is AssaultCube?
AssaultCube is a multiplayer first-person shooter built around fast arcade combat in realistic-looking maps. Deathmatch and flag-based modes provide different objectives, while the single-player bot system offers a way to practise without joining a multiplayer match. A built-in editor supports making maps, including cooperative editing with other players.
The publisher also lists demo recording and several dozen bundled maps. This entry links to the publisher-listed 1.3.0.2 Mac disk image rather than a Windows installer or a third-party download wrapper.
Mac compatibility needs care: the publisher lists macOS 10.6 or higher, but the release-tagged Xcode project includes application deployment targets of 10.7. Neither source establishes that the distributed DMG works on every newer macOS version or provides native Apple Silicon support. No installation or gameplay test was performed. The complete game package is freeware with a noncommercial-use restriction; its open-source code license does not apply uniformly to all game assets.
What it offers
- Play multiplayer modes including Deathmatch, Survivor, Capture the Flag and One-Shot One-Kill, with team variants.
- Practise against the single-player bot system.
- Create maps in the built-in editor and use real-time cooperative edit mode.
- Record gameplay with the demo system and use the bundled map collection.
Good to know
- The publisher’s historical macOS minimum is not a guarantee of current compatibility; the release source has differing deployment targets, and native Apple Silicon support has not been confirmed.
- The complete game package may not be used for commercial purposes; individual code and asset licenses differ.
