What is AssaultCube?

AssaultCube is a first-person shooter built around fast arcade combat in realistic environments. Join multiplayer modes such as Deathmatch, Survivor and Capture the Flag, or use its single-player bot system to practice. A built-in map editor also supports real-time cooperative editing, so creating arenas is part of the game rather than a separate tool.

The Windows download is the version 1.3.0.2 Lockdown Edition EXE installer linked by the publisher. When upgrading, the publisher recommends removing the previous game files or installing into a different directory. Although the engine source is available under a zlib-like license, the complete game package has separate noncommercial freeware terms; its bundled assets are not all covered by the source-code license.

What it offers

  • Multiplayer modes include Deathmatch, Survivor and Capture the Flag, with team variants among the available modes.
  • Single-player bots provide opponents for practice.
  • Create maps in the built-in editor, including real-time cooperative editing with other players.
  • Record matches through the game's demo system.

Good to know

  • The complete game package may not be used for commercial purposes; individual components have their own licensing terms.
  • Upgrades should not be installed over old game files: the publisher recommends removing them or choosing a different installation directory.
