What is Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead?

Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead puts survival ahead of a fixed adventure: explore a persistent, procedurally generated post-apocalyptic world and find food, water, equipment and shelter. Encounters include zombies, giant insects, robots and other survivors. Turn-based play gives the game a different pace from a real-time zombie action game.

The Windows download here is the official 0.I-1 (Ito-1) x64 graphical build, distributed as a ZIP archive. The project also offers a separate graphics-and-sounds package. This entry links to the project's free distribution, not the separate community-managed Steam listing.

Choose the stable branch if you prefer it to experimental development builds, but expect some newer features to arrive there later. The game's many survival systems take time to learn. In-game documentation is available with the ? key; the release README warns that its tutorial may not function after code changes.
