What is 1.1.1.1 with WARP?
1.1.1.1 with WARP is Cloudflare’s free consumer connection app for macOS. It sits in the menu bar and provides a toggle for enabling the connection. Use Traffic and DNS mode to send device traffic through Cloudflare’s network, or choose DNS-only mode when you want encrypted DNS queries without tunneling the rest of your traffic.
Preferences include DNS protocol choices and optional 1.1.1.1 for Families filtering for malware or malware and adult content. These options make it useful for changing how your Mac resolves names and connects to the Internet without configuring each application separately.
WARP is not an anonymity service and does not let you choose another country to appear to browse from. DNS-only mode does not protect other device traffic. The screenshot shows an earlier beta macOS interface; labels and appearance may differ in the current download.
What it offers
- Enable or disable the WARP connection from the macOS menu bar.
- Choose Traffic and DNS tunneling or DNS-only operation through the 1.1.1.1 resolver.
- Configure DNS-over-HTTPS or DNS-over-TLS where supported by the selected mode.
- Optionally enable 1.1.1.1 for Families filtering for malware, or malware and adult content.
Good to know
- WARP does not provide anonymity or let you appear to connect from a different country.
- DNS-only mode encrypts DNS queries but does not tunnel other device traffic.
