What is Factorio?

Factorio turns resource gathering into a factory-design problem. You mine ore, process materials and connect machines so production can run automatically. Expanding the factory means balancing transport, electricity and research while defending infrastructure from hostile creatures. It suits players who want to design interconnected production systems rather than manage a single building.

The full game combines conveyor-belt logistics with trains, robots and blueprints. You can work toward launching a rocket in single-player freeplay, build with friends in multiplayer or create scenarios with the map editor. These are full-game capabilities, not a promise that every feature is included in the demo.

This entry links to Wube Software's Windows 64-bit demo, version 2.1.23. The publisher describes it as a free introduction to the basic mechanics containing only a subset of the full game. Buying Factorio is required for full-game access; the demo should not be mistaken for a free copy of the complete game. The official gallery image illustrates Factorio gameplay and is not a version-specific capture of this demo.

What it offers

  • Automate mining, smelting and assembly using machines, inserters and conveyor belts.
  • Expand full-game logistics with railway transport, logistic robots and construction blueprints.
  • Research technologies and manage electricity while protecting production infrastructure.
  • The full game supports single-player freeplay, cooperative multiplayer, a map editor and Lua-based modding.

Good to know

  • The linked free demo contains only a subset of the full game and teaches basic mechanics; full Factorio access requires purchase.
  • The publisher lists Windows 10 or 11 and a 64-bit operating system; this is not a 32-bit Windows download.
