What is Freeciv?
Freeciv puts you in charge of a civilization whose growth depends on exploration, city building, research and military decisions. Develop your territory against computer-controlled opponents or play with other people over a network. Game settings let you adjust the map and other parameters rather than follow one fixed setup. Freeciv is an independent game; owning Civilization is not required.
This download is the Freeciv 3.2.6 GTK4 EXE installer for 64-bit Windows 10 or later. It includes the mainstream graphical client with a map editor, not the source-code archive or the separate ruleset editor. Other client interfaces are available from the publisher, but they play the same Freeciv games. For multiplayer, check client/server version compatibility before joining: the project warns that different versions are often incompatible.
What it offers
- Explore territory, establish cities and research technologies to develop your civilization.
- Play against AI opponents or join multiplayer games locally or over a network.
- Adjust map size and other game parameters to change the setup.
- Use the GTK4 graphical client and its map editor.
Good to know
- Different client and server versions are often incompatible; check versions when arranging multiplayer games.
- The selected Windows package requires 64-bit Windows 10 or later; it is not a 32-bit installer.
