What is FreeCol?
FreeCol is a turn-based strategy game about establishing colonies and developing an independent nation. Inspired by Colonization, it combines exploration, resource management and trade with diplomacy and combat. It suits players who want to make economic and territorial decisions one turn at a time rather than control a real-time battle.
The project offers a Classic ruleset aimed at gameplay close to the original Colonization, alongside mod support and multiplayer. Its isometric map presents the world while colony screens bring together buildings, production and goods. The gallery image shows a historical German-language colony interface; it is not a verified screenshot of version 1.2.0.
This download is the publisher-listed FreeCol 1.2.0 DMG for M1/M2 Macs, with Java included. Intel Macs have a separate package on the publisher's download page. The publisher warns of macOS running problems and recommends keeping autosave enabled. It also reports issues with non-native display resolutions and states that the application is unsigned; macOS may therefore prevent it from opening. No installation or compatibility test was performed for this listing.
