What is Lucas Chess?
Lucas Chess combines computer opponents with structured chess practice. You can adjust an engine’s thinking time or analysis depth, choose an opening or starting position, and use exercises for tactics, finding the best move, openings and checkmates. Its PGN tools let you read games and edit or save positions, while additional utilities cover Polyglot opening books and tournaments between engines.
The linked download is the publisher’s R 6.2.2 installable EXE for 64-bit Windows, not its separate portable package. R6 does not support Windows 8 or earlier, or 32-bit operating systems. Additional engines must use the UCI protocol. The screenshot shows an older Windows interface from the source gallery, not a verified capture of R 6.2.2.
