What is Minecraft: Java Edition?
Minecraft: Java Edition is a sandbox game for building, exploration and survival on Mac. Shape a world block by block, collect materials for tools and shelter, or use Creative mode to build with unlimited resources. Java Edition also supports community mods, custom skins and player-hosted servers for people who want to change how their worlds look or play.
On macOS, choose Java Edition rather than Minecraft for Windows, which is the Bedrock edition. Java players on Mac can join Java players on Windows and Linux, but cannot join Bedrock players on consoles or mobile devices. Java Edition also lacks native controller support and the Bedrock Marketplace.
The download here is Mojang's Mac Minecraft Launcher DMG, not a standalone copy of the full game. Sign in with the Microsoft account used to purchase Minecraft to access the game. The publisher currently lists macOS 12 or newer as the Java minimum and macOS 14 or newer as recommended; check its full processor, graphics and memory requirements before purchasing.
