What is Scid?
Scid (Shane’s Chess Information Database) is for studying recorded chess games and maintaining a game collection. Import PGN files, find games by player, opening or position, and use filters to narrow a database to the games you want to examine. It suits players reviewing their own matches or preparing for an opponent.
The publisher describes support for databases containing millions of games and analysis through UCI or Winboard engines. These tools let you combine a searchable game archive with engine-assisted study rather than work through isolated game files.
The interface favors detailed panels and controls over a simplified beginner workflow. Softonic notes that its dated layout can be unintuitive at first. The screenshot is the publisher’s older Scid 4.6.2 Windows example, not a capture of the selected 5.2.202603 package.
This download is the publisher-hosted Windows x64 ZIP, separate from the source-code and other-platform archives. The link was checked with a HEAD request only; the archive was not downloaded, installed or tested.
