What is ScummVM?

ScummVM runs supported classic graphical adventure and role-playing games on macOS by replacing their original executables. It is a game runtime, not a collection of games or a general-purpose emulator. It is useful when you already have a supported game's data files and want to play on a modern Mac.

Add the folder containing your game files through the Launcher, select the detected game and start it from your library. The Launcher supports list and grid views, search, game-specific settings and access to saved games. Supported titles include games in the Monkey Island series, Broken Sword and Myst; check the publisher's compatibility list for your particular game and edition.

This entry links to the publisher's 2026.4.0 DMG for macOS 10.13 or later on Intel and Apple Silicon. Game files must be obtained separately and legally; downloading ScummVM does not give you the commercial games it supports. Original saved games work only for select titles. The screenshot shows the historical ScummVM 1.0.0 Mac Launcher from Softonic's gallery, not the current release interface.

What it offers

  • Run supported classic graphical adventure and role-playing games using replacement game engines.
  • Add folders of game data to a Launcher with list and grid views.
  • Search the game library and configure settings for individual games.
  • Start a game or open its saved-game selection from the Launcher.

Good to know

  • Requires separately obtained game data; support depends on the specific game and edition listed in the publisher's compatibility information.
  • Saved games made with an original game's executable can be imported only for select games.
