What is The Powder Toy?

The Powder Toy is a falling-sand physics sandbox for experimenting with materials and building machines. Draw substances into the simulation, combine liquids, gases and electronic components, and watch how heat, air pressure, velocity and gravity affect the result. It suits open-ended projects such as landscapes, wired devices and chain reactions rather than a fixed sequence of levels.

The in-game save browser lets you explore community creations, while the Lua API supports automation and plugins. Online features such as saving require a registered account. The publisher also notes that changes to Lua API event restrictions in version 100.0 mean some older scripts need updating. This entry links to the publisher's Windows 64-bit ZIP; the application was not installed or run for this card.

What it offers

  • Experiment with air pressure, velocity, heat and gravity in a falling-sand simulation.
  • Combine building materials, liquids, gases and electronic components to construct machines and terrain.
  • Browse community saves and upload your own creations through the online service.
  • Automate experiments or extend the game through its Lua API.

Good to know

  • Online features such as saving require a registered account.
  • Some older Lua scripts need updating after the API event restrictions introduced in version 100.0.
