What is Unciv?

Unciv is a turn-based civilization-building game for players who want to develop an empire through city growth, research and military decisions. Its 2D interface puts the map and game systems ahead of elaborate presentation. You can expand cities, choose technologies and confront rival civilizations, with modding support for changing the experience.

The publisher describes Unciv as a moddability-focused remake of Civilization V, not a replacement for its high-resolution graphics, soundtrack or animations. Choose it for the strategy systems rather than the original game’s presentation. In-game Civilopedia tutorials provide a starting point for learning the rules.

The linked publisher MSI resolved to release 4.22.15 when checked. The screenshot shows the technology-tree interface from the Windows source listing; it is not evidence of the appearance of that exact release.

What it offers

  • Develop a civilization by building and expanding cities.
  • Research technologies and plan military actions in turn-based play.
  • Customize the experience through the game’s modding support.
  • Consult tutorials inside the in-game Civilopedia.

Good to know

  • Uses a simpler 2D presentation rather than Civilization V’s high-resolution graphics, soundtrack and animations.
