What is Vassal?
Vassal brings board and card games to a shared digital tabletop. Choose a module for the game you want to play, then use the engine to meet opponents online or exchange turns by email. Its module-based approach suits groups that want to continue a tabletop game remotely without finding space for the physical board. The Vassal Editor also lets module creators build an adaptation of a game.
The Windows download here is the 64-bit x86 installer for Vassal 3.7.30, released on October 20, 2026. Java is bundled with the Windows package, so a separate Java installation is not required. The publisher also offers separate Windows 32-bit x86 and ARM64 packages; this link is not one of those builds.
Choose the game module separately from the engine. Before editing an older module, keep an unchanged backup: a module saved in Vassal 3.7 cannot be opened by earlier versions. The screenshot illustrates the Vassal interface on a Linux desktop, not a Windows installation or a test of this release.
What it offers
- Play board and card game adaptations through individual game modules.
- Connect to live opponents through the Vassal server.
- Exchange turns by email for asynchronous play.
- Create a game module with the Vassal Editor.
- Use the Windows package with its bundled Java runtime.
Good to know
- Game modules are selected separately from the Vassal engine; the installer is not an individual board game.
- Modules saved in Vassal 3.7 cannot be opened by earlier versions. Back up older modules before editing them.
- This download targets 64-bit x86 Windows, not Windows ARM64 or 32-bit x86. An exact minimum Windows release was not established from the cited sources.
