What is 4Peaks?
4Peaks helps molecular biologists inspect DNA sequencing results without separating the trace from its sequence. It opens common trace formats, including AB1 and SCF, and displays quality data alongside the colored peaks. Horizontal and vertical scaling make crowded regions easier to examine, while marked selections help you return to a region of interest.
The editor can correct missed or incorrect base calls and crop low-quality regions. Live amino-acid translation helps relate nucleotide changes to their protein sequence, and motif searching supports predefined patterns or your own. The publisher also lists an integrated NCBI BLAST search and PDF output for figures.
The publisher lists version 1.8 and a minimum of OS X 10.7. That historical requirement does not establish compatibility with current macOS releases or Apple silicon; neither was tested for this entry. Softonic's review also reports that the application does not provide a raw-data view.
What it offers
- Open AB1 and SCF sequence trace files and view their quality data.
- Scale traces horizontally or vertically and mark regions to revisit.
- Edit base calls and automatically crop low-quality areas.
- Translate nucleotide sequences to amino acids and search predefined or custom motifs.
- Access NCBI BLAST search and generate PDF figures.
Good to know
- Softonic's review reports no raw-data view.
- The publisher's OS X 10.7 minimum does not confirm current macOS or Apple silicon compatibility.
