What is BookDB?

BookDB2 keeps a local catalogue of your books with author, category and publisher details. Print a collection list to take to book sales, or use its lending features to record borrowers, loans and multiple copies. It is aimed at home collections and small libraries rather than large institutional catalogues.

The publisher documents importing a tab-delimited LibraryThing catalogue and using barcode scanners that send their input as keypresses. These are specific workflows: scanner support does not establish automatic online book lookup, and the historical LibraryThing instructions have not been independently tested here.

This entry links to the publisher's BookDB2 Full Install, not the separate unfinished BookDB3 test version. The publisher states Windows 98 and newer, but that broad legacy statement is not a tested Windows 10 or 11 compatibility guarantee. The download page also warns that the publisher no longer signs its freeware installers; a successful download-header check does not establish software safety.

What it offers

  • Record books with author, category and publisher information.
  • Print collection lists in several formats, including a condensed layout.
  • Track borrowers, book loans and multiple copies.
  • Import a LibraryThing catalogue using the publisher's documented tab-delimited workflow.
  • Accept barcode-scanner input when the scanner sends data as keypresses.

Good to know

  • Modern Windows compatibility is not independently verified; the publisher provides a broad Windows 98-and-newer statement.
  • The publisher targets home and small libraries and reports delays switching lists in a larger generated catalogue.
  • The publisher warns that its freeware installers are no longer code-signed. No installer was downloaded or executed for this entry.
