What is CLEO Redux?
CLEO Redux is a scripting runtime for game mods, not a standalone game or an education app. It runs JavaScript and TypeScript scripts inside supported games, including specified releases of GTA III, Vice City, San Andreas, GTA IV and Bully. It suits players installing compatible scripts and mod authors who want to edit scripts in a text editor and inspect their output in cleo_redux.log.
The publisher’s first-steps workflow starts with a small intro.js file in the CLEO directory. Changes can reload while the game runs, so a script author can adjust code without restarting for each edit. Commands differ between games; a script written for one title is not automatically portable to another.
This download is the Windows installer, which the documentation says identifies the selected game and downloads dependencies. Separate portable archives are available for 32-bit and 64-bit games but omit ASI Loader and some plugins. Match the game’s build and architecture, not just the Windows architecture. Current releases support Windows 10 and 11; Windows 7 requires the older 1.2.2 release.
The screenshot shows Vital’s optional Extended Controls script running in GTA San Andreas. Its menu illustrates a third-party use of CLEO Redux; it is not a bundled settings screen or a claim that the pictured script is included.
What it offers
- Run JavaScript and TypeScript scripts inside supported game releases.
- Reload edited scripts on the fly and inspect messages in cleo_redux.log.
- Add compatible scripts and extra plugins through the CLEO directory.
- Choose the installer or separate portable packages matched to 32-bit or 64-bit games.
Good to know
- Requires a supported game and executable build; this is not a standalone application or a game download.
- Windows 10 and 11 are supported. Windows 7 support ended after version 1.2.2; other Windows versions are not documented as tested.
- GTA San Andreas 1.0 requires CLEO 4.4 or CLEO 5. ASI loading is required unless the game already provides it; portable archives omit the loader and some plugins.
- Commands and script compatibility vary by game. Compiled .CS support for the Trilogy is deprecated and limited to San Andreas Definitive Edition.
