What is CloudCompare?
CloudCompare edits and processes 3D point clouds and triangular meshes. Use it to compare two scans or measure distances between a point cloud and a reference mesh. Registration tools help align datasets, while scalar fields let you display per-point values, such as distances, as a color map. Segmentation and resampling tools support preparing the data before analysis.
A comparison needs appropriate preparation: check the scale and alignment of the two datasets before computing distances. Mesh-to-mesh comparison uses the vertices of the compared mesh rather than sampling its whole surface automatically. If those vertices are sparse, the publisher recommends sampling points on the mesh first.
This entry links to the publisher's CloudCompare 2.13.2 Windows x64 EXE installer, not the separate ccViewer application or the 2.14 beta. The publisher dates the stable release to August 7, 2024; Softonic's June 9, 2026 listing update is a different date. The publisher-provided screenshot illustrates an older interface and is not a capture of version 2.13.2.
What it offers
- Compute distances between two point clouds or between a point cloud and a triangular mesh.
- Align datasets with point-pair picking and fine registration using ICP.
- Segment and resample point clouds before further processing.
- Display scalar fields, including distance results, with adjustable color scales.
Good to know
- Datasets that differ in scale or alignment need preparation before distance comparison.
- Mesh-to-mesh distance comparison uses the compared mesh's vertices; sparse vertices may require sampling points on the mesh first.
- The selected installer is for 64-bit Windows. The publisher lists 2.6.2, not 2.13.2, as its last Windows 32-bit release.
