What is Crow Translate?
Crow Translate helps you translate text without moving every task into a browser. You can work with selected text or text on screen, use customizable shortcuts and listen to text through its speech features. Its command-line interface offers another way to run translation tasks.
Version 4.1.0 adds the LocalAI backend for OpenAI-compatible endpoints and image recognition with a vision model as an alternative to Tesseract. Images can be opened, dropped or pasted for recognition. This entry links to KDE's Windows x64 EXE package.
Translation service choice matters. Mozhi instances can disable particular engines, and KDE warns that the third-party services behind Mozhi may store and analyze submitted text. Do not treat the proxy as a guarantee of confidential processing. The screenshot shows a historical Windows interface, not a verified capture of version 4.1.0.
What it offers
- Translate and speak text from the screen or a selection.
- Use customizable keyboard shortcuts and a command-line interface.
- Choose among translation engines exposed by the selected Mozhi instance.
- Use an OpenAI-compatible endpoint through the LocalAI backend introduced in 4.1.0.
- Open, drop or paste images for text recognition, with Tesseract or a vision model.
Good to know
- Some Mozhi instances disable specific translation engines, so available services depend on the instance.
- Third-party services used through Mozhi may store and analyze the text you submit.
