Draxel for Windows
Create dimensioned 2D technical drawings in metric or inches with Draxel, a free Windows CAD application with layer folders, underlay tracing and DWG/DXF exchange.
What is Draxel?
Draxel is a Windows 2D CAD application for technical drawings with dimensions and manufacturing tolerances. Draw lines, arcs, circles and other geometry, organise related layers into folders, and use object snaps to place details precisely. Image and PDF underlays provide references for tracing, while individual objects can override their layer's colour, line style, lineweight and transparency.
The publisher lists DRX, DWG, DXF, SVG, EMF and PDF import, with native DRX saving, DWG/DXF exchange and PDF, SVG, EMF and PNG output. Scale-controlled printing and shared drawing layouts support sheets with borders and title blocks. Draxel is offered as freeware for private or corporate use without a subscription or cloud account.
CAD import is not lossless for every object. Draxel reports unsupported objects that are omitted, and supported 3D projections produce editable 2D geometry rather than preserving a complete 3D model. Some projections omit vertical or internal detail; review the import report when exchanging complex drawings.
What it offers
- Draw and dimension in millimetres or inches, including linear, angular and radius dimensions with tolerances.
- Organise layers into collapsible folders and override colour, line style, lineweight or transparency per object.
- Trace image or PDF underlays using crossing selection and configurable grid, angle and object snaps.
- Import supported DRX, DWG, DXF, SVG, EMF and PDF drawings; save DRX and export DWG, DXF, PDF, SVG, EMF or PNG.
- Prepare scale-controlled prints and exports with drawing borders, title blocks and technical annotations.
Good to know
- Unsupported CAD objects may be omitted during import; Draxel reports those omissions.
- Supported 3D objects are projected into editable 2D geometry, and some projections omit vertical or internal detail.
