What is DupeKill?
DupeKill compares file contents to find exact duplicates, then lets you review what happens to each copy. Before scanning, you can set preferences for the file to keep: its name, its age or the folder it belongs to. This suits sorting repeated files when you want control over the retained copy rather than deleting every match automatically.
Choose a folder, scan it and review the suggested Keep or removal actions in the results. Advanced criteria can include or exclude multiple folders and save a search configuration for reuse. The publisher documents copying results or exporting a scan to CSV before using Execute Actions. Check the proposed actions before applying them: Delete is the documented default removal action, while Recycle and Move are alternatives.
This is an exact-match tool, not a way to find merely similar photographs or differently encoded versions of the same media. The publisher offers version 1.2 dated February 19, 2020 as a ZIP to unpack and run, with .NET Framework 4.6.2 or later required. The source does not establish compatibility with specific current Windows builds. The screenshot is an older publisher example of the results interface, not a test of version 1.2 or a recommendation to remove files from installed applications.
What it offers
- Find exact binary duplicates by comparing file contents.
- Suggest which copy to keep using filename, date or preferred-folder rules.
- Save advanced criteria with multiple included or excluded folders and filters.
- Review Keep, Delete, Recycle, Move or symbolic-link actions for matched files.
- Export scan results to CSV before executing actions.
Good to know
- No fuzzy matching: similar files with different contents are not exact duplicates.
- Deletion is the documented default removal action; review selections before executing them.
- Symbolic-link creation usually requires administrator privileges and at least one retained file; links target the first retained file.
- Version 1.2 is dated 2020-02-19; the publisher does not specify supported current Windows builds or processor architectures.
