What is DWSIM?
DWSIM builds chemical-process flowsheets from material streams, energy streams and unit operations. Engineers, students and researchers can use it to study separation, heat transfer and reacting systems with thermodynamic property packages such as Peng–Robinson, NRTL and UNIQUAC. It supports both steady-state calculations and dynamic simulation.
The linked package is DWSIM 10.2.12 Open-Source Core Edition for Windows 10 and 11 on Intel/AMD 64-bit PCs. It uses the unified Avalonia interface and includes its runtime. Windows ARM64 has a separate installer. This is not the Patreon Edition: patron-only extras such as AI Design Mode are not included in the core package.
Calculation results are approximate, not a substitute for engineering judgment. The publisher requires users to validate the data and determine whether results suit their application. The gallery image is a historical publisher-project screenshot of the Windows interface from 2018; it illustrates a combustion flowsheet, not the appearance of the current release.
What it offers
- Build flowsheets with distillation columns, heat exchangers, pumps, compressors and reactors.
- Choose thermodynamic models including Peng–Robinson, NRTL and UNIQUAC.
- Model steady-state processes and time-dependent dynamic behavior.
- Use Python script operations and automation interfaces for simulation workflows.
Good to know
- The Open-Source Core Edition excludes Patreon-only components such as AI Design Mode.
- The publisher describes calculation results as approximate and requires users to validate their suitability for each application.
