What is Earth3D?
Earth3D visualizes the Earth in a real-time 3D view. You can move from a whole-globe view toward regional imagery, with external data layers such as clouds and earthquake positions. The publisher credits data from NASA, USGS, the CIA and the city of Osnabrück. It is an Earth-visualization application rather than a promise of detailed street-level coverage everywhere.
The publisher's Mac download is a separate version 1.0.1 DMG, historically listed for Mac OS X 10.2 and later. The publisher says this version lacks HTTP proxy support. That legacy system requirement does not establish compatibility with current macOS or Apple silicon; neither the application nor its historical data services were run for this entry.
Map detail depends on the available dataset. The publisher specifically limits its house-level zoom example to Osnabrück, Germany. The screenshots come from the publisher's cross-platform gallery: the full interface image is the Linux example, not a capture of the Mac package.
What it offers
- View the Earth as a whole in a real-time 3D scene.
- Zoom toward countries and cities using the available geographic imagery.
- Display external geographic layers such as cloud data and earthquake positions.
- Explore a GPL-licensed application with separate publisher-listed desktop downloads.
Good to know
- The Mac package is the legacy 1.0.1 release and lacks HTTP proxy support according to the publisher.
- The historical Mac OS X 10.2+ listing does not confirm current macOS or Apple silicon compatibility; CPU architecture is not specified by the cited publisher page.
- High-detail coverage is limited by the dataset; the publisher's house-level example is restricted to Osnabrück, Germany.
