What is ElectronMail?
ElectronMail is an unofficial desktop client for ProtonMail, not Proton's own desktop app. It brings multiple accounts into one application and adds desktop notifications, an unread-message tray indicator and an optional encrypted local message store. It suits ProtonMail users who want to read stored mail without a connection or search across message bodies.
The local store is the important distinction: enabling it makes stored message bodies available for offline reading, full-text search and export. Batch export can save messages as EML files. Attachments are not kept in the offline store, so exporting attachment content requires an online connection. Local storage therefore does not mean every part of a message remains available offline.
The linked package is the project's Windows x64 NSIS installer for version 5.3.10; Windows ARM64 has a separate asset. The release notes say this version restores basic Proton search after a regression in the previous release. The gallery shows historical publisher interface examples with Linux desktop chrome, not a current Windows capture; older account labels in those images are not a claim of current support for other mail services.
What it offers
- Use multiple ProtonMail accounts within one desktop application.
- Enable an encrypted local store for offline access to stored email bodies.
- Search message text, including body content, with full-text search.
- Export stored messages to EML files; attachment export requires online access.
- Receive per-account desktop notifications and see an unread-message count in the system tray.
Good to know
- ElectronMail is an unofficial ProtonMail client, not an application published by Proton.
- Offline storage excludes attachment content; attachments need online access.
- Local-store features require the local store to be enabled; the selected x64 installer is distinct from the ARM64 package.
