What is ePSXe?
ePSXe emulates the original PlayStation on Windows. It is aimed at players who want to use their own legally obtained game discs or disc images, with virtual memory cards and save states for keeping progress. Graphics, sound and controller settings can be adjusted rather than relying on one fixed configuration.
The Windows 2.0.18 release adds CHD disc-image support and optional DPI awareness, alongside sound and game-compatibility fixes. The publisher provides a Win32 executable in a ZIP archive; the linked package is the Windows build, not the separate Android app.
Expect some configuration work. The emulator offers an HLE BIOS mode, but the publisher documents compatibility and memory-card limitations and recommends an original PlayStation BIOS. Save states made with an original BIOS are not interchangeable with HLE BIOS save states. Supply only BIOS files and games you are legally entitled to use. The screenshot shows an earlier Windows interface with 2.0 branding, not a verified capture of version 2.0.18.
What it offers
- Run original PlayStation games from discs or supported disc-image files.
- Use virtual memory cards and save-state slots to keep game progress.
- Read CHD disc images in the Windows 2.0.18 release.
- Configure graphics and sound components and use native XInput controller support.
- Enable DPI awareness through Options for high-resolution displays.
Good to know
- Setup can require manual selection and adjustment of BIOS, graphics, sound and controller settings.
- HLE BIOS mode has documented compatibility and memory-card limitations; an original PlayStation BIOS is recommended by the publisher.
- Save states created with an original BIOS cannot be exchanged with HLE BIOS save states.
- Games and any original PlayStation BIOS files must be supplied legally by the user; this entry does not provide them.
