What is Fluent Reader?
Fluent Reader brings subscribed news feeds into a desktop reading interface. Use it locally, or connect a supported RSS service to synchronize your reading. Folder-like subscription groups keep related sources together; the built-in article view and webpage-reading option give you two ways to open a story. OPML import and export help move a subscription list between readers, while full application backup and restoration cover a separate need.
Regular-expression search and read-status filters help narrow a busy inbox. Rules can automatically hide, star or mark incoming articles as read. The publisher also documents single-key shortcuts, background fetching and notifications. Version 1.3.2 adds resizable article views and loads more articles as you reach the bottom of a feed.
The linked download is the publisher’s 1.3.2 DMG. Its release-tagged build configuration sets macOS 13 as the minimum, so the macOS 10.15 requirement on the older Softonic listing should not be applied to this package. Synchronization is limited to supported services and compatible APIs; it is not a promise that any RSS account can connect. The accompanying image is the publisher’s historical desktop illustration with Windows-style window controls, not a screenshot captured from this Mac release.
What it offers
- Read feeds locally or synchronize with supported RSS services and Fever/Google Reader API-compatible self-hosted services.
- Import and export OPML subscriptions; back up and restore full application data.
- Organize subscriptions into folder-like groups and switch between article and webpage reading.
- Search with regular expressions, filter by read status, and automate hiding, starring or marking incoming articles as read.
- Use dark mode, single-key shortcuts, background fetching and notifications.
- Resize article views and automatically load more articles while scrolling in version 1.3.2.
Good to know
- Version 1.3.2 sets macOS 13.0 as its build minimum; the older Softonic listing’s macOS 10.15 requirement does not establish compatibility for this download.
- Account synchronization requires a supported RSS service or compatible API; other services are not universally supported.
