What is Flycast?

Flycast emulates Sega Dreamcast consoles and Naomi, Naomi 2 and Atomiswave arcade hardware. It is useful for running compatible game media on a PC rather than original hardware, including supported homebrew and indie games. The Windows download linked here is the publisher's version 2.7 ZIP archive for 64-bit PCs.

Point the emulator at your content folders to build its game list, then configure controls and display settings for the games you use. The project-linked wiki documents controller and peripheral emulation, resolution upscaling and custom texture support. Version 2.7 adds frame-rate detection and pacing, localization and multiscreen support for selected Naomi titles. These are documented capabilities, not a claim that every game or peripheral will work.

Game media must be supplied separately. The setup guide says a Dreamcast BIOS is optional, while Naomi and Atomiswave require the corresponding BIOS files. Use only game and firmware files you are authorized to use; the emulator's open-source license does not grant rights to those files. Arcade content also needs the expected ROM and CHD layout, so this is not a download-and-play game collection.

What it offers

  • Emulate Dreamcast, Naomi, Naomi 2 and Atomiswave hardware in one application.
  • Add content folders and browse recognized game media from the game list.
  • Configure emulated controllers and peripherals, including VMU expansion slots.
  • Use resolution upscaling and custom texture loading for supported content.
  • Version 2.7 includes frame-rate detection and pacing, localization and multiscreen support for selected Naomi games.

Good to know

  • You must provide authorized game media separately; the emulator license does not license commercial games or firmware.
  • Naomi and Atomiswave require their corresponding BIOS files; arcade ROMs and CHDs must use the layout described in the setup guide.
  • This download targets 64-bit Windows, not 32-bit Windows. A minimum Windows version has not been established from the publisher sources used here.
