Free42 for Android
Use an HP-42S-style programmable scientific calculator on Android, with decimal arithmetic, HP-42S program support and printer simulation.
What is Free42?
Free42 recreates the HP-42S scientific programmable calculator and HP-82240 printer on Android. It is a complete rewrite that needs no HP ROM image. Its calculator interface and ability to run HP-42S programs make it useful for continuing an existing HP-42S workflow on a phone. The publisher lists Android 4.4 or later and provides an APK for manual installation alongside a Google Play listing.
The Android edition uses decimal arithmetic; unlike the desktop packages, it does not include a binary-arithmetic edition. You can copy and paste numbers, matrices and program listings, or save calculator states containing programs, variables and settings. Check imported program listings: the parser silently ignores text it does not recognize as HP-42S instructions, so a pasted program can be incomplete without an error.
What it offers
- Run programs written for the HP-42S without an HP ROM image.
- Use the decimal-arithmetic edition of the calculator on Android.
- Copy and paste real or complex numbers, matrices and program listings.
- Save, share and switch calculator states containing programs, variables and settings.
- Use HP-82240 printer simulation.
Good to know
- Pasting program text silently ignores unrecognized instructions; compare the imported program with its source listing.
- Android is Decimal-only; the Binary edition included in desktop packages is not provided for Android.
