What is FreeCAD?
FreeCAD models real-world objects using dimensions, constraints and an editable design history. Start with a geometry-constrained 2D sketch, build it into a solid part and revisit the model's parameters when a dimension changes. Its workbenches cover mechanical design, assemblies, architectural BIM and technical drawings, making it useful for developing parts and preparing designs for manufacturing or 3D printing.
The built-in Sketcher provides constraint-based drawing tools, while the Assembly workbench connects components with 3D constraints. Python scripting and macros provide another way to automate operations or extend the available tools. FreeCAD supports exchanging model data through formats including STEP, IGES and STL.
The linked FreeCAD 1.1.4 disk image is for Apple Silicon Macs running macOS 12 Monterey or newer. Intel Macs need the separate Intel package offered on the publisher's download page. The gallery image is an older FreeCAD reference interface supplied on Softonic's Mac page; its desktop styling is not verified as macOS and it does not document the appearance of version 1.1.4.
