What is Gaia Sky?
Gaia Sky turns astronomical catalogs into a navigable 3D universe. Explore the Solar System, move through Gaia star data or load galaxy catalogs to examine larger structures. It is a useful fit for astronomy exploration and visual presentations when you want spatial context rather than a flat list of objects.
The integrated dataset manager lets you choose which catalogs, textures and models to add. Supported personal-data formats include VOTable, FITS and CSV, while camera paths and Python scripting offer ways to repeat a journey or control a scene. OpenXR support provides a separate VR viewing option on Windows with a compatible headset and runtime.
Plan for setup beyond the installer: the publisher says the installation contains only the program, so you must download datasets before using it. Memory and disk needs increase with the data you select. The linked EXE is the Windows 10/11 x64 package; the published graphics requirement is OpenGL 3.3 with 1 GB of VRAM, and 4 GB or more of system RAM is listed.
What it offers
- Explore scientific star, planet and galaxy datasets in a real-time 3D scene.
- Choose astronomical catalogs, textures and models through the integrated dataset manager.
- Load personal data in VOTable, FITS and CSV formats.
- Record and replay camera paths or control scenes through Python scripting.
- View the universe in OpenXR VR with a compatible Windows headset and runtime.
Good to know
- The installer contains only the program; additional dataset downloads are required before use.
- RAM and storage requirements depend on loaded datasets; the publisher lists a GPU supporting OpenGL 3.3 with 1 GB VRAM.
- VR requires separate OpenXR-compatible headset hardware and runtime software.
