What is GB Studio?
GB Studio is a visual game creator for building Game Boy games on Windows. Arrange a project with drag-and-drop tools and define behavior with visual scripting rather than starting with source code. The publisher supports top-down, platform and shooter game types, including mixing types within one game, and provides a debugger for more complex projects.
Its built-in music editor offers piano-roll and tracker views. Finished projects can become Game Boy ROM files for an emulator or web exports with mobile controls. Version 4.3.2 adds Web Templates, which let creators replace the HTML, CSS and JavaScript wrapper around a web export through Web Export Settings.
The linked download is the publisher’s Windows 64-bit installer ZIP for version 4.3.2; separate 32-bit and standalone packages are available in the release assets. The publisher warns that 4.3.2 will probably be the final release supporting Windows 7, 8 and 8.1. Running an exported ROM on an original Game Boy requires a flash cart; exporting a ROM does not transfer it to hardware.
